The Gateway Theatre of Shopping Cook Off – East meets West meets South at Super Spar's Gateway School of Cooking

For the very first time Umdwebo will be hosting ‘The East Meets West Meets South Cook Off’ which will be held at the state-of-the-art Nissan Showroom in Gateway Theatre of Shopping. The appeal of cooking shows and demonstrations has grown exponentially in South Africa since our exposure to International Satellite TV and this event provides the opportunity to experience a cook off in a South African context first hand.

Watch three professional chefs who have three very different cultural perspectives and experiences create some culinary magic! As guests we will have one Eastern chef who will interpret the ingredients provided from an Indian perspective, a Western Chef who has a more Continental approach and a local chef who can bring a more traditional South African slant to the table. Each chef will be supplied with exactly the same ingredients and will be required to create a three course meal drawing inspiration from their cultural heritage. Each chef will be allowed to bring one unique “magic” ingredient which they can add to their arsenal.

Ten students from the internationally recognized Christina Martin School of Food and Wine will watch and learn whilst preparing the same dishes, which will be enjoyed by guests. Our guests will also be provided with the opportunity to participate if they wish, and will be assisted by two of the students. Wine tasting of the award winning Stables Wine Estate, whose Estate is based in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, and water tasting of H2O’s high quality product will also feature at the event.

This highly interactive and lively occasion is a fast-paced and fun way to learn a few more tricks in your kitchen.
